Over the past 25 years, Conrad Hochstetler, a member of True Vine Tabernacle, has met hundreds of people in the uptown area of Elkhart, Ind., and many have rented apartments from him. His first encounter with Mike, or "Big M" - at 6' 6" and 400 pounds, an apt nickname - was as someone who'd stay with some of Conrad's renters who had a reputation for using drugs.

Conrad finally got Mike into his own place, thinking that might help straighten things out. It worked for a while, but as Mike began to fall behind in his rent payments, and as Conrad discovered more and more people staying at Mike's apartment, he realized he had to evict him.
